Robot, the United States team that walk modified as origami development

From a state in which lying on the ground like paper [AFP = current affairs] of a flat one, and got up to as if alive though, by deforming movement reminiscent of origami art, new this ── walked to crawl the 7th, the research team Harvard University such as (Harvard University) has announced, the robot. That in the future, to contribute search activities in the building collapse site and space exploration, and speeding up the production rate of the assembly line that is expected.

According to the report, which was published in the United States science journal Science in (Science), and is expected to take many years yet commercialized, but by the technological advances of the latest, breaking new ground in the field of robotics that is customized for individuals that opened.

According researchers belonging (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, SEAS) in Engineering and Applied Sciences and (Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering), Sam Felton to (Sam Felton) Mr. Beith Institute of Harvard University, this robot material costs can be on inexpensive $ 100 slightly (about 10,000 yen), to change the program easily to perform other tasks from the work there.

Robots are made of multiple layers, including paper overlap, wiring is made ??(Method of removing a portion of the thin film) etching layers of copper intermediate. The outer layer is made of a shape memory polymer to bend and fold it warm. And that they are also applicable to the affected areas for shelter and furniture set up by itself.

Robot is scheduled to be unveiled "(International Meeting of Origami Science, Mathematics and Education) science, mathematics, education international conference of 6th origami" in which will be held in Tokyo on 10 to 13 this month.

(International Meeting of Origami Science, Mathematics and Education)」で披露される予定だ。
